Vulnerability: Why is it so important?

May 24, 2017 | Posted by in Encouragement, Faith, Lifestyle, Uncategorized | 0

Two months ago I was having a lot of trouble sleeping. I’d sit in bed with my eyes closed for hours before my mind slowed and drifted to sleep. What was scarier than not sleeping were the thoughts and feelings of anxiousness that would run through my head while lying there. And in the middle of all those thoughts I felt totally alone. No one is up in the middle of the night in my home, not even the dog. And even though my husband laid asleep right next to me, I physically felt so isolated and so fearful of having to lay there with all these thoughts, all by myself. After a few nights of horrible sleep I started using sleep aids, supplements, andRead more …

Inconvenient Growth

I recently spent 3 weeks of my January in Florida. I know what you are thinking, “wow, that sounds pretty awesome in mid-winter!”. Well…any other time I would agree with you, but it wasn’t awesome, in fact it was a complete interruption in my life. And did I mention I left the husband at home but took my 18 month old with me?! Yeah… In all seriousness I went to Florida to help my mom care for my grandmother. At the time of my departure I had round trip airfare booked. Eden and I would go to visit my grandmother who’d been in the hospital for a month, give my mom a little break from being at her bedside, then return to Maryland in aRead more …

A Letter to Those Struggling this Christmas

Hey you…I see you trying to get yourself in the “holiday spirit”, but you just can’t. The thought of watching Christmas movies and baking cookies while drinking hot chocolate sounds so good, but you just aren’t motivated. You still have gifts to wrap and even more gifts to buy. The Christmas cards aren’t even ordered yet, but hey, maybe you can send out new year’s cards instead. You are hurting…maybe you’ve lost someone close to you and this time of year brings back countless memories. Or maybe you or a loved one are sitting in a hospital bed right now just wanting a somewhat normal Christmas without any physical pain. Or maybe you’ve just received some terrible news and feel so lost looking ahead toRead more …

The Power in Asking For Help

Dec 6, 2016 | Posted by in Encouragement, Faith, Uncategorized | 0

It’s been a while friends, but I am back! I haven’t felt myself physically or emotionally in about a month and a break from writing was much needed. So I took some time to refocus and get my body back to normal after battling an illness. Not only that, but it’s been a very busy season in my family’s life…a camping trip, my husband’s 30th birthday, a family wedding, and a cross-country vacation. While I was feeling exhausted and things were a little chaotic, I was blessed by a lot of people. Some of which, I asked directly for help. And when I say “directly” I mean I just came right out and said what I needed… “Can you watch my child for me?” “CanRead more …

A Parent’s Influence

One of the things I admire about my Dad is all the hobbies he has and has shared with his kids. He loves watching sci-fi movies, reading books, painting spaceship models, constructing corn hole boards, and my favorite, collecting Star Trek memorabilia. Oh yes, he is a “Trekkie” through and through. And I can’t say that I wasn’t influenced by that. I saw all the movies with him, kept up with the evolving TV shows, and bought Hallmark Star Trek ornaments every Christmas. I even dressed up as my favorite character for Halloween one year. I loved it because he loved it. It didn’t matter if the kids in school had any idea what I was talking about, or thought it was “cool” or not. Nope, it didn’t matter because the influence ofRead more …

Thank you ladies…

God put it on my heart a few days ago to just sit and think about all the women in my life. Some, of course, are pictured above in my sweet wedding photo, some are family, some are new friends and old friends, some I keep in constant contact with and some are distant. But each of these women have a unique story, whether they think it is or not. And when you sit down to think about each of them, it paints a tragic, messy, triumphant, and overall beautiful picture. Each of these women have imprinted on me at some point in my life. I’ve seen them cry, I’ve seen them angry, I’ve seen the hardships as well as the exciting times in their life. I’veRead more …
