The Best Gift My Husband Has Given Me

Rest means different things for different people, and I am not talking about the rest where you sleep. Without a doubt, I can say that everyone needs rest in one form or another. That’s why God created the Sabbath, right? I mean even He needed rest and in so doing He created a day that should be dedicated to rest each week, not to mention it’s one of the ten commandments. “There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works [labor].” Hebrews 4:9-10 So, we know we need to rest in obedience to God and we know that it shouldn’t involve work. Rather, time spent enjoying the gifts God has given us andRead more …

Vulnerability: Why is it so important?

Two months ago I was having a lot of trouble sleeping. I’d sit in bed with my eyes closed for hours before my mind slowed and drifted to sleep. What was scarier than not sleeping were the thoughts and feelings of anxiousness that would run through my head while lying there. And in the middle of all those thoughts I felt totally alone. No one is up in the middle of the night in my home, not even the dog. And even though my husband laid asleep right next to me, I physically felt so isolated and so fearful of having to lay there with all these thoughts, all by myself. After a few nights of horrible sleep I started using sleep aids, supplements, andRead more …

Why I started Journaling and How You Can Too

Mar 10, 2017 | Posted by in Faith, Lifestyle, Uncategorized | 0

I get asked by a lot of different people how I journal. And usually they are asking that question in one of two ways: 1) what do I write about and how do I come up with my content? Or 2) literally HOW do I have time for it with a young child? Getting started… I started journaling a few years ago after I took a class at our previous church on Lectio Devina style bible study. If you aren’t familiar with this style, it’s a mix of scriptural study, meditation, and prayer. Basically, I take an area of scripture of my choice or per my devotional and read it a few times while underlining the areas that stand out to me. Then, I meditate on it andRead more …

Inconvenient Growth

I recently spent 3 weeks of my January in Florida. I know what you are thinking, “wow, that sounds pretty awesome in mid-winter!”. Well…any other time I would agree with you, but it wasn’t awesome, in fact it was a complete interruption in my life. And did I mention I left the husband at home but took my 18 month old with me?! Yeah… In all seriousness I went to Florida to help my mom care for my grandmother. At the time of my departure I had round trip airfare booked. Eden and I would go to visit my grandmother who’d been in the hospital for a month, give my mom a little break from being at her bedside, then return to Maryland in aRead more …

A Letter to Those Struggling this Christmas

Dec 21, 2016 | Posted by in Encouragement, Faith, Uncategorized | 0

Hey you…I see you trying to get yourself in the “holiday spirit”, but you just can’t. The thought of watching Christmas movies and baking cookies while drinking hot chocolate sounds so good, but you just aren’t motivated. You still have gifts to wrap and even more gifts to buy. The Christmas cards aren’t even ordered yet, but hey, maybe you can send out new year’s cards instead. You are hurting…maybe you’ve lost someone close to you and this time of year brings back countless memories. Or maybe you or a loved one are sitting in a hospital bed right now just wanting a somewhat normal Christmas without any physical pain. Or maybe you’ve just received some terrible news and feel so lost looking ahead toRead more …

The Power in Asking For Help

Dec 6, 2016 | Posted by in Encouragement, Faith, Uncategorized | 0

It’s been a while friends, but I am back! I haven’t felt myself physically or emotionally in about a month and a break from writing was much needed. So I took some time to refocus and get my body back to normal after battling an illness. Not only that, but it’s been a very busy season in my family’s life…a camping trip, my husband’s 30th birthday, a family wedding, and a cross-country vacation. While I was feeling exhausted and things were a little chaotic, I was blessed by a lot of people. Some of which, I asked directly for help. And when I say “directly” I mean I just came right out and said what I needed… “Can you watch my child for me?” “CanRead more …
